First CSD in Waren: Parade and Democracy Festival on the Neuen Markt

Waren (Müritz) is hosting its first Christopher Street Day (CSD) on Saturday, June 13. It starts at 1 p.m. on the Neuen Markt. The CSD is under the motto "Leevde is colorful" and will culminate in a democracy festival in the afternoon: From 3 to 9 p.m., the "Colorful Market at the Müritz" is planned at the same location – under the motto "Loud, Colorful, Free."

The democracy festival is organized by the Warener Demokratiebündnis e.V. in cooperation with the Innenstadtverein Waren e.V. The event is supported by the federal program "Living Democracy!"; it is also promoted through the city's official information channels.

Demonstration and Encounter: Why the Combination is Political

The fact that CSD and democracy festival in Waren are deliberately brought together at one place and on one day is more than a question of logistics. The CSD is traditionally both a visibility and protest format: It stands for the demand for equality, protection against discrimination, and social recognition of queer people.

With the subsequent democracy festival, this political core is translated into an open city format – with the clear message that diversity is not just "included," but is visibly organized in public space. At the same time, the concept focuses on encounter: Associations and initiatives should not only be present, but engage in conversation, explain their work, and reach new supporters.

Especially for a city society where engagement often takes place in the background, the stage on the marketplace is a signal: Democracy is not an abstract term, but arises through exchange, participation – and enduring different ways of life.

Schedule and Program: Stage, Associations, Participation Activities

The democracy festival begins at 3 p.m. with a welcome. Contributions are planned from Silvio Witt (Citizen Representative of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Liane Klieschewsky (City of Waren), Babsi (patron of the CSD), and Corina Heinrich (Chairwoman of the Warener Demokratiebündnis e.V.). At 3:30 p.m. follows the interactive presentation of non-profit associations from Waren.

  • 4:30 p.m.: MaLou (guitar)
  • 5:00 p.m.: Heizraum
  • 6:00 p.m.: Poetry Slam
  • 7:00 p.m.: Harpy (Drag Performance)
  • 8:00 p.m.: Les Bummms Boys (live from Rostock)

Additionally, participation activities and low-threshold opportunities for encounters are announced. In the pavilion of the Democracy Alliance – recognizable as "AnquatschBAR" – there will be coffee and homemade cake. The Reschke Brewery announces a "Bratwurst for Democracy."

Organizational Information: Free Admission, Toilets and Retreat Area

Admission is free; the offer is explicitly aimed at all citizens from Waren and the region – regardless of age, life situation, or prior knowledge. Toilets are available in the Haus des Gastes as well as in the City History Museum. The museum also provides quiet and nursing areas.

The schedule for visitors is thus clear: The CSD starts at 1 p.m. on the Neuen Markt. From 3 p.m., the "Colorful Market at the Müritz" follows there until 9 p.m. – as a combination of political rally, association presence, and city festival, which is being implemented in this form for the first time in Waren.
